DUE TO THE EXTENDED CLOSURE OF BELLAIRE HS, HERE ARE SOME UPDATES RE: EXISTING APPLICANTS AND ANYONE STILL INTERESTED IN JOINING (PRINT + ONLINE) THREE PENNY PRESS. 

  • Prior to Spring Break, some students who attended our INTEREST MEETING  had not yet submitted their application. WE STILL WANT YOU TO APPLY.
  • We are re-opening our application process to ensure everyone who is interested can apply.  OUR NEW DEADLINE WILL BE ON-GOING FOR NOW. 

To make this easier, we are moving completely to the electronic application. Click HERE to apply. Please email [email protected] responses to these essay questions.

Already applied and are just waiting to hear back? You should hear something via email during the week of April 9-12. 

Learn how you can travel and compete in state and national student journalism competitions, earn membership into the Quill and Scroll, the international high school journalism honor society, and be a part of the voice of Bellaire High School.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?  Students who are entering 10-12th grade. Anyone who wants to write about things that matter. Anyone who wants to tell the stories of Bellaire students and teachers. Tell the the stories that need to be told.  Has your English teacher told you that you have strong voice in your writing? Consider becoming a newspaper reporter on the Three Penny Press where you can write for an audience.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR: 

  • Strong writers and readers.
  • Reporters, photographers, copy editors, graphic designers, artists, social media/digital leaders, business managers or anyone who wants to learn these skills.
  • Students interested in learning broadcast journalism, become a high school news anchor, creating videos, and hosting podcasts.
  • Students who thrive in a fast-paced independent deadline-driven environment classroom lab.
  • Positive “I can learn it” and “I will try it” attitudes.
  • Students who are open to becoming proficient in every area of multimedia journalism.
  • Students who want to write about things that matter.
  • Students interested in building a portfolio by publishing your work in the Three Penny Press.
