It is a common belief that vegans and vegetarians do not have many options for eating out. True Food Kitchen is a perfect spot for those with restricted diets. Its location is convenient, as it is near the Galleria and the Highland Village shopping center. Although it is optimal for a brunch, the restaurant is open until the night. If the weather permits, there is an area customers may sit outside to enjoy the fresh air.

The kitchen was sectioned off from the rest of the restaurant by a glass wall, and diners could peek through and see how their meal was being made. This was the first time I saw anything like this. I thought it was an awesome idea, especially because the restaurant markets itself as an organic, vegan and vegetarian friendly option.

Inside, the restaurant’s environment had a refreshing and vibrant ambience, which reflected the menu. The restaurant claims you don’t have to be a die-hard yogi to enjoy the food. This is true – for those that aren’t fans of kale and quinoa and all things organic and healthy, there are still basic options such as pizza and sandwiches, and even certain salads with chicken. The menu has options for everyone, including those who are not vegan or vegetarian.

I ordered the Smashed Avocado Toast, which was $10, and my friend ordered Quinoa Johnny Cakes, which were also $10. It was interesting to see a healthy twist on toast and pancakes. it was on the pricey side, especially for something you could easily recreate in your own kitchen. However, there were many other options that I know I would not make on my own, or have the ingredients to make by myself.
